DR. DANIEL JACKSON
Civilian Anthropologist
Civilian Advisor Joint Forces, Unit SGC
Team Member SG-1
Dr. Jackson joined the SG-1 team on a voluntary basis to study the cultures of other planets. He holds a Ph.D. in Anthropology as well as a Ph.D. in Linguistics, and has prior experience with the culture of Abydos. He is an expert in ancient cultures and languages in addition to current ones; he speaks over 23 languages including ancient Egyptian. Originally he was contracted by the military to decipher a mysterious hieroglyphic cartouche. His subsequent translation of the cartouche allowed the Stargate to be opened for the first time.
Daniel Jackson was orphaned at the age of 8, when his father and mother, Melburn and Claire Jackson, were killed in a museum accident. Daniel witnessed a large, stone slab crash down on them, and as a young child, was helpless to save them. He was placed into the foster care system when his Grandfather proved unwilling to assume responsibility for his care and he remained within it until his 18th birthday.
He married Sha're, an off-world human and native of Abydos, after he chose to stay behind on the planet following the first Stargate mission, and he became something of a deity to the people of Abydos.
About a month after the first Stargate team returned to Earth, Jackson discovered an ancient maproom in a cave on Abydos, perhaps left by the builders of the Stargates. The walls of the room are covered with lists of addresses for Stargates all over the galaxy, neatly ordered into local groups. Daniel had even mapped some of the constellations represented there in the Abydonian night sky ... or at least pretty close.
Daniel had not been able to dial to any other planet, likely because the addresses of many planets change slightly over thousands of years, due to the theory of planetary drift. The gate may have worked between Earth and Abydos because they are relatively close in the universe -- less distance means less relative drift.
Now married to Sha're, Daniel spent over a year with the people of Abydos. After helping to defeat Ra, Daniel was treated as a savior by the people. Now, his wife has been abducted by the Goa'uld Apophis, and taken as a host by a parasitic alien. Daniel promised his friends on Abydos that he will return in one year; if he does not, they are to bury their Stargate forever. Finding Sha're has become Jackson's one mission in life.
Daniel Jackson's humanistic, liberal approach is often in conflict with O'Neill's militaristic approach. Some see him as a soft, brainy, clumsy scientist who carries a wide-eyed enthusiasm with him through every mission.
I am using this journal to archive my works in progress "Young Daniel" stories, prompt responses and rp logs. I am writing Daniel's responses using his perspective of things as he is seeing them following the death of his parents (age 8). I am also bringing in remembrances of events from his earlier childhood (age 4), so, don't be alarmed as you read through the journal and instead of finding the expected adult you hear a child's voice and see much younger PB avatars than what you might expect.
